Reselling on Poshmark, Depop, or Mercari sounds simple until platform fees eat into your margin. A $50 sale does not mean you keep $50 — each marketplace charges seller fees, and those fees differ by platform, sale price, and whether the buyer pays shipping. Resell Fee Calc helps US resellers answer one question fast: after fees and costs, how much do I actually keep?

What are seller fees on resale platforms?

Seller fees are the charges marketplaces deduct when your item sells. They typically include a selling or platform fee and may include payment processing. On Poshmark, items under $15 pay a flat $2.95 fee, while items $15 and above pay 20% of the sale price (payment processing is included). Depop charges no standard selling fee for regular US listings but applies Depop Payments processing at 3.3% plus $0.45 per transaction; optional Boost ads add 12% when a boosted listing sells. Mercari charges a 10% selling fee on the sale price plus any shipping the buyer pays.

Understanding these fees matters because two platforms can show very different net profit on the same listing. A dress listed at $50 might leave you with roughly $40 on Poshmark after the 20% fee, but closer to $47–48 on Depop after processing — before item cost and shipping.

How to calculate reseller profit

To estimate profit, start with your sale price, then subtract platform fees and any shipping you pay. Add shipping the buyer pays if it passes through to you. That gives net payout. Subtract your item cost (what you paid for inventory) to get net profit. Divide net profit by sale price for profit margin percentage.

Example: You sell a jacket for $50 on Poshmark with $0 shipping on both sides and $20 item cost. Poshmark takes $10 (20%), leaving $40 payout. Net profit is $20, or a 40% margin on the sale price.

Always factor in shipping. If you offer free shipping, that cost comes out of your pocket and reduces profit even when the buyer sees a higher total checkout price on some platforms.

Why compare platforms before you list

Cross-listing is common, but not every platform pays equally for the same SKU. Lower fees on Depop or Mercari can matter on lower-margin inventory, while Poshmark's flat fee on sub-$15 items can be competitive for small accessories. Use the compare tool to model the same sale price, shipping, and item cost across platforms before you choose where to focus your listings.
